Walgreen's drug store is full of bargains, rebates, rewards, and coupons, if you
know where to look. Learn about all the different ways you can save money on every day products when shopping at Walgreens.
Step 1
You will find two types of printed advertising materials on the media rack near the front of the store. One will be the weekly sales circular (same as in the Sunday paper) that contains the specials for the current week. The other is a small book called The Walgreens Easy Saver Catalog .
Step 2
At the beginning of the month, get a copy of the Easy Saver Catalog and familiarize yourself with what items are available for the rebate. The Easy Saver Catalog also has coupons that you can use on other items in the store.
Step 3
Go to Walgreens.com and register for the rebate program. To get your rebates, just enter the requested information from your Walgreens receipts. You can either get a check for the rebate amount, or a Walgreens gift card. If you choose the Walgreens gift card, you will earn an additional 10% in rebate dollars. (Checks take much longer to process and receive by mail than the gift cards.) You can enter your receipts at the end of the month all at once, or during the month as you make your purchases.
Step 4
While you are on Walgreens.com, be sure to sign up for email notifcations. Several times a month, Walgreens will send you an online printable coupon for $10 off a $20 purchase (or something similar).
Step 5
Each week, check the weekly sales circular to see what items are free with the rebates. The circular will also contain in-store coupons that can be combined with manufacturer's coupons. Sometimes your coupons and discounts will exceed the sale price of the item. (This is called a money maker.) Visit sites like MoneySavingMom.com and The Grocery Game for money saving scenarios. Users on those sites put together scenarios using sales, rebates, manufacturers' coupons, and online printable coupons – they have done all the thinking for you!
Step 6
Another kind of deal you can get at Walgreens is Register Rewards. In the weekly sales circular, some items will produce extra coupons at the end of the receipt that can be used on a future purchase, making the item essentially free. For example, Pantene shampoo may cost $4 on the shelf, you could have a $2 off manufacturer coupon, a $2 off in-store coupon, and Walgreens offers $2 Register Rewards for your next purchase. That particular deal would have made you a $2 profit.
Step 7
The Walgreens Clearance section is a goldmine. It is usually at the end of the first aisle, next to the cosmetics aisle, on the end of the aisle. It may be in different places in different stores, so if you don't see it, ask an employee. You will find incredible deals for 75-90% off the regular retail price, but you have to look frequently as new items are added daily. The clearance items are specific to the particular store as products are rotated or discontinued based on shelf space. Good items to sell on eBay include teeth whitening kits, vitamins, diet products, As Seen on TV products, breast pumps, medical items ( blood pressure monitors , Ace Bandages , etc), perfume, specialty skin care, curling irons, electric razors, and cameras.
Step 8
If you are going to sell any of the free (or almost free) items on eBay, you can always put items in a batch or lot. Try to accumulate some items first before selling them on eBay. Drugstore items such as shampoo, toothpaste, cosmetics, and baby items usually do better in a lot than as individual items.
